FIFA Fan?

With one quick glance I knew what I wanted to draw with this guy. With a mug like that, it was like shooting fish in a barrel.

Old Mark from the Sony Lot

Since there hasn't been activity on here in a while I decided to throw up this guy.  We spotted him while sketching the New York City Facade on the Sony lot April 15th.

The Football, I mean Pug

I'm much happier with my pug than the quick "scene" I attempted to put together. I was aiming to do this really fast but it ended up taking an hour just like the last time I recorded myself with the "Shades of Brown" girl. Did play with a new brush in Photoshop though and I really like it so it's a very good day! :]
I'm just going to end on, Dogs are AMAZING! I love them :]

Did another Camtasia recording of the process, uploaded to Vimeo

Sketchclub at the Dog Park!

Sketchclub management booked us at the local dog park instead of our usual restaurant spot. I've never been to a dog park before, and learned that a dog park is divided into two parks -- one for big dogs, and one for big wimpy dogs and little dogs.

I went into the large dog area figuring the larger dogs would be easier to draw, but I soon learned my interest kept straying my eyes towards the wimpy and small dog section.

Small dogs are pure comedy! In part because I felt like I could finally understand them -- it helped that Kendra gave me a play by play commentary on what they were thinking. (Is there no limit to her talents?!)

As we were leaving we made our mark, a dog that (in my opinion) was so fat he had changed his species! He didn't have a red ball in his mouth, but if he did he'd look just like a roasted pig.

Finally, better late than never. I remember the setup and feel more than I remember the features of the girl. Gotta pay more attention to that next time. Always find it hard to choose between character, gesture, or overall setting. So much info to find out there in this marvelous world. Anywho, here is my take.

Shades of Brown

I could recall, buckles, lots of brown, and an odd pink color of slip on crock looking shoes.

Used Camtasia for the first time to record my process. to see a video of the creation of this piece Click Here or check out my blog.

Am I blue!?

Last week's mark - She was just fab! Yes, I know she was thinner than this, but I really do believe she was channelling her inner Lunch Lady.

Big Guy...really BIG GUY!

OK, I admit, it was like shooting fish in a barrel, but this was the mark on Friday.

We had a pretty good turnout: me, Kendra, Jeremy, Omar, Rustum, Chris, Mark, Glenn, Tuna, Cathy, and Joey were there drawing up a storm. Egads, I hope I didn't leave anybody out.

Opposites attract

This is an older mark. I missed last weeks drawing session, but I had to get something up before today's Sketch Club session. My new goal is to post my version mark every week. Maybe I'll get today's mark up later this afternoon...

Introducing Kendra Melton!

Kendra Melton is a drawing machine, and she's one of our newest members to Sketchclub. And, to top it off, she hasn't missed a mark yet.

Friday the 19th

After many months of Sketchclub drought I was able to make it down to join Marcelo and Company at Daphne's. Always a fun time... As the rest of the group was settling on a "mark" I bumped into an old Sony acquaintance and said hello...Meanwhile the "mark" got up and left so I only had a peripheral glance. All I remember was big hair and flowery 3/4 length pants... I left the rest to my subconscious memory's imagination.
Peace and aloha,
T. Dan

Sorry for the delay in posting. Things are starting to ramp up at work -- and so I've been super busy.

We spotted this one on our way out!

Lily Williams has Posted

Here is Lily's version of the Mark.

Sadly, this may be her last entry for a while as Lily has finished her internship here at Sony. She will be missed, but hopefully she'll make an occasional guest visit with us from time to time.

Strange Summer Colors

Here's my take on today's mark. What's with the gray shirt and winter boots? For crying out loud it's 80 degrees, it's summer, it's California!

(She was talking to another girl holding a little puppy, hence the look on her face.)

Cathy Jones and Lily Williams Post

Our Sony intern Lily Williams is at it again, this time a two-fer! After the Sketchclub management spotted the man in the white shirt, the club then spotted a very unusual looking, and very skinny, blonde woman. Rather than stick to one mark, Lily did both! What an over-achiever.

Good job Lily.

This is Cathy's version for the official Sketchclub mark. Too bad that Vignali guy gave this man short sleeves. Cathy and Lily, on the other hand, got it right.

Mark of the Week

I'm still trying to figure this guy out in terms of character: Eastern European retired mobster? I dunno, but he made enough of an impression that the Sketchclub management picked him as our mark.

Our Newest Members!

Sketchclub has a several new members to its ever expanding roster of artists. Cathy Jones, who worked with Don Bluth, Dreamworks, Disney, Dreamworks and Sony, has joined the club!

Lily Williams, one of our esteemed interns, is taking full advantage of this limited-time free membership and has also joined the club. WOW -- this kid can draw!

And here's a sketch from one of our charter members Marcelo Vignali.

The Ice-Cream Man

OK, is it just me, or does this guy look like an ice cream cone. Better yet, orange sherbet! This guy brings new meaning to that old adage, "You are what you eat."

Mark from 4-30

Here's a mark from a week back, that I finally added some color to. When I was a kid, the local department store had a costumed walking, talking Christmas tree-- she's kind of the post-punk version of that.

Shiny Jacket & Shoes

The girl with the shiny jacket and shoes was pacing around.  Maybe it had something to do with the disturbing texts she was getting.

This guy was wearing this great NASCAR paraphernalia and he was wolfing down his food. Seemed appropriate to me. If you drive fast, you're probably gonna eat fast too.

Mark 02-20-09

I hafta say, this is not a strong image. I basically remembered her pose and her hat. Everything else is hazy. But since I made a point of telling everyone in sketchclub to please post their version of the mark, I can't duck out. I wanted to post my sketch because I'm more pleased with it, than the piece I ended up with.

Why is the sketch better than the finished piece?

Mark for 02-13-09

I'm trying to take a lesson from my good friend Jed Henry. I love that guy's style, I have so much to learn from him. There was a downpour in LA today. At least her hair was kept dry. Happy Friday the 13th!!!

Big Pizza Guy

This is what I got.

--Marcelo

Big Pizza Guy

This past Friday we had a packed Sketchclub session. We were trying to figure out what this guy was hauling. It looked like pizza boxes, but they were a little too tall.

It also looked like what ever he was hauling was very fattening, and he had been dipping into the till.

We had several nubies join us, one of them being Jeremy Steiner with this three part sketch as he worked out the pose.

We also had Peter Chan join us.

Along with John Bevelheimer.

It was pretty clear who was going to be the Mark today. Man that hair was incredible! This image is hardly an exaggeration.
