The Ice-Cream Man

OK, is it just me, or does this guy look like an ice cream cone. Better yet, orange sherbet! This guy brings new meaning to that old adage, "You are what you eat."

Here's a mark from a week back, that I finally added some color to. When I was a kid, the local department store had a costumed walking, talking Christmas tree-- she's kind of the post-punk version of that.

Shiny Jacket & Shoes

The girl with the shiny jacket and shoes was pacing around.  Maybe it had something to do with the disturbing texts she was getting.

This guy was wearing this great NASCAR paraphernalia and he was wolfing down his food. Seemed appropriate to me. If you drive fast, you're probably gonna eat fast too.

Mark 02-20-09

I hafta say, this is not a strong image. I basically remembered her pose and her hat. Everything else is hazy. But since I made a point of telling everyone in sketchclub to please post their version of the mark, I can't duck out. I wanted to post my sketch because I'm more pleased with it, than the piece I ended up with.

I'm trying to take a lesson from my good friend Jed Henry. I love that guy's style, I have so much to learn from him. There was a downpour in LA today. At least her hair was kept dry. Happy Friday the 13th!!!

This past Friday we had a packed Sketchclub session. We were trying to figure out what this guy was hauling. It looked like pizza boxes, but they were a little too tall.

It also looked like what ever he was hauling was very fattening, and he had been dipping into the till.

We had several nubies join us, one of them being Jeremy Steiner with this three part sketch as he worked out the pose.

We also had Peter Chan join us.

Along with John Bevelheimer.

Incredible, what a group we had at Sketchclub this past Friday. After a round of bonhomie and cheer, it was off the find a "mark" we could all agree on.

When the management spotted the "mark," there was no debating! After these sketches, you'll see why.

Happy Halloween!

Ah, what a day at Sketchclub. We had Andy Gaskil, Noelle Triaureau, Omar Smith, Lia Abate, Marcelo Vignali, and our newest member, Glenn Harmon join us on Friday.

Glenn Harmon joined Sketchclub around the same time he joined Sony Pictures Animation. Hmm, I think it's a coincidence, but others will probably think one had something to do with the other.

Glenn is a very talented and motivated young man, we're glad to have him fill our ranks! Here's his take on the "mark."

The "mark" was easy to spot for the Sketchclub crew, and I think he knew he was getting stared at by the smug look on his face.

Talk about a kid with a purpose, he was making a B-line for the theater. Hmm, I didn't have the heart to tell him that Surf's Up isn't playing anymore.

The Sketchclub management spotted him crossing the street and "marked" him. I think the dreads did it.

Oof! How could we miss this guy!

Having said that, he almost got run over by a car coming out of a driveway! Good choice of clothing for the day. It got me thinking how his life could have changed, simply by the clothes he picked in the morning.

That does it, I'm going to wear that bearskin hat I got on Ebay ;¬)

Introducing JED HENRY

Ladies and Gentlemen, Sketchclub has the distinct honor of having it's very first intern! OK, Jed is actually Sony Animation's first intern, and he's been joining the Sketchclub crew on Friday's as they head off to do some "clubbing."

Look at this beautiful sketch! And, the rest of the Sketchclub crew slacked off and didn't join him in on the fun.

Big Nasty Dude

This is a weird fashion statement that I have not gotten used to in the 20 or so years that it has become popular. It's sort of like taking the Charlie Chaplin baggy trousers and oversized shirt, and trying to look cool wearing it.

Believe it or not, this little gangsta was a full grown man (early 20s) -- but at a distance he had the proportions of a ten year old boy in his big brother's hand-me-downs. In the end, with his hat cocked to the side, his fashion statement made him look like Spanky, from the Little Rascals.
