The Late Great Paul Shardlow 29/10/1946 - 8/10/2022

In October of this year, we lost one of our very own, Mr. Paul Shardlow himself. He was a creative giant among us, and he was a member of our sketch club. With his acerbic English wit, and equally sharp pencils, he carved out a professional career that left an indelible footprint in the world of entertainment.

When I logged into the Sketchclub blog today, I discovered that in 2018 the late Paul Shardlow had attempted to post in Sketchclub. For what ever reason he never completed the post. So, I am completing this post for him. In a way, Paul has gifted us with yet one more look into his wonderful, humorous and creative mind.

We Spotted a Spotted Dachshund

Evan spotted the dog first, having remarked that he had not seen a Dachshund with spots. The owner, noticing the appreciation of our entire table, beamed with delight. And, that was a "mark" for today.

It had been a while since I had posted a sketch club mark, but suffice it to say we have been diligently drawing every week. It's been eleven years since we first started our club, and we are still going strong.

One of the topics during our conversations today, "Drawing is supposed to be fun."

Stubborn At The Traffic Light.

When I saw "the mark" he was standing at the crosswalk waiting on the light to change.

I thought it would be funny to show this gentleman as a grumpy old dude who was not going to let a traffic light tell him what to do. I added the creature in the sewer as a metaphor. That a bad attitude is gonna get ya one day.

A quick sketch of the 'honeycomb' dude from earlier today. Glad to heard that Daphne's will be open a little longer.

Big Guy

What a character! We knew instantly this was our mark for the day. But, to mix it up a bit, I paired him up with this odd looking young woman.

What could have happen...

Wild Bill was giving us the angry look while Marcelo was happily caricaturing and coloring  him with is "magic marker". Meanwhile I was imagining  all the possible result waiting for a duel to happen.

Tuff Chix

This tough looking young woman was the mark this past week. I was taken with all the leather tassels, and the matching hair.

Olive in Yoga Pants...

I saw this young woman heading off to her yoga class with her yoga mat tucked under her arm, she had a striking resemblance to Olive Oyl. I thought to myself, “Yep, that’s what Olive would look like today.”

Which got me thinking, what would Bluto look like? And, more importantly, does Olive even need Popeye to save her? I think this Olive can save herself.
